FAQ
Getting Started
Do I need to create an account to use TANA?
No. TANA works fully without an account — your data is stored locally on your device. If you want to back up your data or sync across devices, you can sign in with Apple or Google at any time from the Settings tab.
What happens to my data if I sign in after using TANA as a guest?
All your existing data is preserved. When you sign in, your local data is linked to your new account and backed up to the cloud. Nothing is lost.
Tracking & Progress
What's the difference between "completed" and "stopped"?
"Completed" means you finished the book, movie, or show. "Stopped" means you decided to stop partway through. Both move the item off your Now list. You can rate items either way.
Can I log something I finished in the past?
Yes. When adding a new item, toggle "Already finished" to send it directly to your Shelf. You can set the finish date and rating right away.
Can I change the start or finish date later?
Yes. Tap any timeline entry to edit its date in place, or tap the pencil icon on an item in your Now list to change its start date.
Is there a limit on progress notes?
Each progress note can be up to 100 characters. There's no limit on how many notes you can add per item.
Search & Data
Why can't I find a specific book, movie, or TV show?
TANA searches TMDB (for movies and TV) and Google Books (for books). If a title isn't in these databases, you can always add it manually — just type the title and choose the manual entry option below the search results.
What does the checkmark badge on items mean?
The checkmark badge means the item was added from a search result and matched to a real database entry with verified metadata (title, cover art, year).
Where does TANA get cover art and metadata?
Movie and TV cover art comes from TMDB. Book covers come from Google Books. If you add an item manually, it won't have cover art.
Account & Privacy
Can I use TANA on multiple devices?
Yes, if you sign in with the same Apple or Google account on each device. Your data will sync automatically via the cloud.
What happens when I sign out?
Signing out starts a fresh guest session on your device. Your cloud data remains safely stored and will be available when you sign back in on any device.
Is my data shared with anyone?
No. TANA has no social features, no public profiles, and no data sharing. Your records are completely private and isolated to your account.
Does TANA work offline?
Yes. TANA is offline-first — all your data is always stored locally on your device. You can add items, log progress, and browse your library without an internet connection. Changes sync when you're back online.
Billing
Is TANA a subscription?
No. TANA is a one-time purchase. Pay once, use forever. No subscription fees, no in-app purchases, no ads.
Do I need to pay for updates?
No. All future updates are included with your purchase at no extra cost.
Troubleshooting
I accidentally deleted an item. Can I recover it?
Unfortunately, deleted items cannot be recovered. TANA shows a confirmation step before deletion that tells you how many progress entries will be lost, to help prevent accidents.
My data isn't syncing across devices.
Make sure you're signed in with the same account on both devices and that both have an internet connection. Check the sync indicator in the Now section header — it shows whether your data is up to date. Try closing and reopening the app if the issue persists.
